Working to Halt Malaria Among Pregnant Women and Children
Malaria is especially dangerous for pregnant women and their unborn children. In sub-Saharan Africa, malaria infection is estimated to cause 400,000 cases of severe maternal anemia and 75,000–200,000 infant deaths annually. Maternal anemia contributes significantly to maternal mortality and causes an estimated 10,000 deaths per year. Master's Trail International's (MTI’s) work in malaria focuses on interventions to prevent malaria in pregnancy and manage the disease in women who become sick. Our comprehensive approach supports the World Health Organization (WHO)'s three-pronged approach, which includes:(a) In areas of stable transmission, intermittent preventive treatment in pregnancy (IPTp) with an effective anti-malarial medication during routine antenatal care in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, at least one month apart;(b) in areas of stable and unstable transmission, the use of insecticide-treated bed
nets and (c) In areas of unstable transmission, rapid treatment for pregnant women showing signs of malaria.Readmore

Preventing Cardiovascular Diseases
Globally, an estimated 17 million people die each year of cardiovascular disease, particularly heart attacks and strokes. A large percentage of these deaths can be attributed to unhealthy lifestyle choices, such as tobacco smoking, lack of exercise, and poor diet.Although cardiovascular diseases have long been considered ailments of affluence, recent research clearly indicates that they pose a health threat that knows no geographic or socio-economic boundaries. Most countries in Sub-Saharan Africa,Ghana for example, currently face considerable challenges related to cardiovascular diseases with mortality rates more than three times higher than averages in Western Africa.Since Masters' Trail International’s (MTI's) inception in 2006, many of our partnerships have focused on improving cardiovascular health whether through community-based education and prevention programs at the primary care level or enhanced treatment services at hospitals and polyclinics..Readmore
Empowering People Though Income Generating Activities
One of the cornerstones of Master's Trail International's (MTI’s) is Income Generating Activities. The focus on Income Generating Activities (IGA) is based on our experiences that have shown that empowering people to be able to provide for themselves and their families is a human right, a means of well being and human dignity. Employment is recognized as important for improving national development, human dignity and peace. It is estimated that between 2007 and 2012, half a million youth will be seeking employment. Unfortunately due to various limitations such as low levels of education, training and opportunities, just a small fraction of this group will get jobs. It is for these reasons that MTI prioritizes IGA as a means for the youth and other stakeholders to create opportunities not only for themselves but also for others. Our IGA are undertaken as a wholesome activity that includes entrepreneurial, management, customer care and marketing training.Readmore
